Rachel McAdams Asked Benedict Cumberbatch About His ‘Cumberbitches’

Rachel McAdams stopped by Ellen on Thursday, and she and host Ellen DeGeneres got a little sidetracked when talking about McAdams’s new movie, Doctor Strange, particularly when DeGeneres brought up co-star Benedict Cumberbatch. Apparently there is a portion of female Cumberbatch fans who refer to themselves as Cumberbitches. McAdams and DeGeneres made sure the audience knew that’s what the women call themselves, not something the two of them came up with.

McAdams said that she asked Cumberbatch about it.

According to McAdams, Cumberbatch replied, “Oh, it’s very flattering, but I just wish they’d call themselves something more respectable, like Cumberhumans.”

Though neither McAdams nor DeGeneres came up with any alternatives, like Cumberladies or Fanedicts, DeGeneres was right when she said “Cumberhumans” doesn’t quite work. She put the distinction perfectly.

“That doesn’t go with ‘batch,’” said DeGeneres. “Does he understand that? That’s the whole point. It goes with ‘batch.’ He’s not that bright.”
