From Race to Tragedy in Seconds: The Time-Lapse Video of the Boston Marathon Finish Line That Captures So Much

CBSBoston had a web camera stationed at the finish line of Boston Marathon Monday, capturing footage from just after noon through the explosion and into the evening.

The station has released the time-lapse video from the web cam. At first, it shows racers victoriously crossing the finish line after running 26.2 miles. Then, 15 seconds into the footage, the explosion that killed three and injured more than 170 people hits.

The time-lapse shows emergency responders taking the place of runners on the course and transitions into a space empty of everyone outside of authorized personnel. Nothing in the scene appears to be moved as investigators are seen in the distance. Later an officer with a bomb sniffing dog wanders around the area and the footage transitions to night.
