The top spender so far is Democratic incumbent Javier Martinez, running for a seat representing Bernalillo County. His campaign has spent just over $79,000 running, data from the New Mexico Secretary of State (SOS) shows.

Behind Martinez, two Republicans have each spent around $50,000 in their campaigns. Steven McCutcheon and James Townsend are both running to represent districts in Eddy County.

Part of the difference in spending between Republican and Democratic candidates is the fact that there are more Democratic candidates running for election. Still, on average, Democratic candidates have spent more to run their campaigns.

Overall, politicians running to represent Bernalillo County have spent the most as a group. Candidates poured over $400,000 into races for legislative seats representing Bernalillo County. Meanwhile, some incumbent legislators have announced they will not be running for reelection.
