Race Car Goes off Track and Into Crowd, Kills 7 Spectators in Sri Lanka
A car race in Diyatalawa, Sri Lanka, during into a horrific scene on Sunday after a car went off the circuit and into a crowd, killing seven and injuring more than 20.
Diyatalawa is located in the country's central hills, about 110 miles east of the capital city of Colombo. The Fox Hill motor race circuit was on the grounds of a Sri Lankan military base. The event was put on by Sri Lanka Automobile Sports it attracted an estimated 45,000 spectators.
According to an Associated Press published report, a car left the dirt-road circuit and went into the crowd. Four of those killed were race officials.

Other reports said that the accident occurred shortly after officials had opened the gates to let fans in for free in an effort to promote motorsport and that there may have been closer to 100,000 spectators at the circuit.
The incident is still under investigation. There was no immediate report of what caused the accident.
