The Race for Baker Mayor: Former councilwoman announces run for mayor

BAKER, La. (BRPROUD) — Four candidates are running to become Baker’s next mayor.

The candidates include incumbent Mayor Darnell Waites, Doris Thornton-Alexander, Brenda Jackson and Denise Stevenson.

Doris Thornton-Alexander is a former city councilwoman and former school board member who said she is running on truth, transparency and trust. As well as experience.

“As an ex-union person, I came up through the ranks. I started off at the school board, and then I moved up to the council. So, the next promotion, hopefully, will be the mayor. So, I’m not sure if anyone else running for mayor came up through the ranks as I did,” said Alexander.
