Quitman ISD hosts celebrations for employees entering retirement

QUITMAN, Texas (KETK) – Four Quitman ISD educators with a combined 99 years of experience were honored on Tuesday as they enter retirement.

According to Quitman ISD, Dana Hamrick the high school principal, Glenda Chaney a kindergarten teacher, Angela Brown a high school teacher and Julie Young a paraprofessional, had retirement celebrations in their respective campuses to honor their years of dedication to the district.

Hamrick said after 34 years in education and 26 and a half years at Quitman ISD she is excited to begin retirement.

“QHS principal was the busiest, most stressful job I’ve held, but by far the absolute most rewarding job I’ve ever done,” Hamrick said.

Chaney has dedicated 31 years to the field and 25 of those were spent at the district, a release said.

“We express our sincerest gratitude to Mrs. Chaney for her unwavering dedication to the young students she has taught at Quitman ISD,” the district said.

Celebrating local first responders for National EMS Week

Brown said that after 12 years in the district and a total of 19 in education, she is ready to retire.

“I appreciate the opportunities QISD has given me to explore a variety of positions in the district, but I have to admit, the last five years I have spent in the classroom have been the most rewarding,” Brown said.

After devoting 15 years to education as a paraprofessional, Young said she is retiring this year.

“This community is very dear to my family and me. I’m so honored to have been part of QHS and QJH,” Young said.
