Quitman High School students build houses & auction it off to community

QUITMAN, Ark. – For almost two decades, students at Quitman High School have been getting hands-on experience in a program that helps launch them into the workforce.

The students build homes and auction them off to anxious buyers across the U.S. and can transition into a career in construction after graduation.

Conway teen earns associate degree at 16

This year, the program faced being shut down by Conway Public Schools, but thanks to a new partnership with Arkansas State University, the program will continue and has even been enhanced to help kids earn college credit.

This year’s home is a 2-bedroom, 1-and-a-half-bathroom single-family home and is up for auction Saturday, May 4 at noon, at the Quitman Public Schools’ board office.
