Quincy grocery store sells $1 million Lottery ticket

QUINCY – The glass-half-full view? Someone woke up $1 million richer than when they went to bed Tuesday night.

The glass-half-empty view? That same person missed out on a $735 million payday by just one number.

The lucky Mega Millions player bought the golden ticket at Kam Man Food at 219 Quincy Ave. and matched the five white balls but missed on the Mega Ball. It was one of two second-tier prizes sold across the country for Tuesday's drawing. A ticket sold in California also fell one number shy of the jackpot.

The winning numbers for Tuesday's drawing were 2, 16, 31, 57, 64 and the Mega Ball was 24. The Mega Millions jackpot hasn't been won since Dec. 8, and Friday's jackpot will be an estimated $792 million. Mega Millions tickets cost $2 per bet and can be played in 45 states; Washington, D.C.; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In addition to the good fortune of the person who bought the ticket in Quincy, a ticket worth $1,500 was sold at Driftway General Store in Scituate.
