Those worried that watching the above clip might spoil key plot points can rest easy, since this is the opening nine minutes of A Quiet Place, which concerns a family (played by Krasinski, Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe) living in an America where silence is golden — because there are malevolent creatures stalking the land that attack anything they hear. That situation is expertly laid out by Krasinski in his tale’s introductory passage set inside a ramshackle store, where the clan searches for supplies while communicating via sign language. Alas, no matter their diligent efforts to remain undetected, their youngest member’s desire to take a battery-powered toy rocket soon leads to disaster, culminating in a pre-credit tragedy that’s as unexpected as it is harrowing.
