Quaker Quick Take: Celebrating a year of achievements in New Philadelphia Schools

As we reach the end of another successful school year, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, and the support of our families and community members. This has been a year of remarkable achievements, and it's time to celebrate the success that comes from this collective effort.

Our academic and athletic awards ceremonies and final concerts are in full swing, highlighting our students' exceptional talents and perseverance. The upcoming Class of 2024 graduation will mark a significant milestone, celebrating the culmination of years of hard work and the beginning of new journeys.

We are also excited about the fun-filled activities planned for our students on the last day of school. The PTO-sponsored fun days at each elementary school promise joy and laughter. Middle school students will enjoy their last day at Tuscora Park, creating lasting memories with friends.

High school seniors will participate in the traditional clap-out, where elementary students and staff honor the Class of 2024. These visits allow our seniors to walk down memory lane, visiting the buildings they attended at New Philadelphia City Schools and being cheered on by former teachers, administrators, younger siblings, friends, and neighbors.

Scholarships

There is no doubt that the generosity of the Quaker Foundation significantly impacts the success of our district. This year, they awarded 138 scholarships to 85 members of the Class of 2024, totaling $295,264. Additionally, they provided 52 teacher grants amounting to $20,216 throughout the school year.

The Quaker Foundation recently announced the 2024 Dr. William J. and Mae Hurst Jackson Award for Distinguished Teaching winners. Congratulations to Rachelle Hughes and Christa Roberts for their exceptional dedication to their students. Rachelle, now in her 14th year of teaching with us, and Christa, who has dedicated 21 years to our district, have demonstrated outstanding commitment. Each will receive a $6,000 award. Congratulations to our runners-up, Shanna Lamb and Doug Smith, who will receive a $1,500 prize. A special thank you to the Quaker Foundation for their incredible generosity and support of our district.

As we conclude this school year, let us take a moment to reflect on the remarkable achievements and the unwavering support of our community. Together, we have made this year a success, and I look forward to continuing this journey of excellence for many years to come.
