QB Rees cleared to practice at Notre Dame

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly cleared incumbent starting quarterback Tommy Rees for football activities, paving the way for Rees and linebacker Carlo Calabrese to return to the team after their arrests on the last day of spring practice.

"They are cleared to stay in school," Rees told the South Bend Tribune. "They've been cleared from me to participate in all workouts. When all of these things come together, we're not going to wait a long time. We're going to try to get this thing to the point where we know exactly where they are. We want to move and get all of this done."

Rees faces just one misdemeanor charge. He allegedly kneed an arresting officer in the abdomen. Calabrese is charged with misdemeanor intimidation.

Rees isn't promised the top position on the depth chart. Four players are competing for the starting job but Rees has started 16 of the last 17 games for Notre Dame.
