Q-Tip Announces New A Tribe Called Quest Album

Phife's wife Desha Head Taylor said that her late husband managed to finish a solo album before his death.

Q-Tip took to Instagram to announce that A Tribe Called Quest will release their first album since 1998's The Love Movement. While the album does not yet have a title, its November 11 release is imminent. In his announcement, Q-Tip explains that this will be the sixth and final release from the legendary hip hop group.

The announcement comes after L.A. Reid revealed that the group planned to release a new project back in August. He told Elliot Wilson that the album was recorded before the loss of their beloved member Phife Dawg this past March, and Q-Tip assures fans that Phife "left us with the blueprint of what we had to do."

"I’m really happy about it, man. It’s really something special,” Reid says of the forthcoming project.

The album will feature appearances from all members of A Tribe Called Quest, including Phife, Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White. The only guests set to contribute to the album are Busta Rhymes and Consequence.

A new song called "We Are The People" and its accompanying video are expected to be released on Friday in anticipation of the album, Billboard reports. The group will also appear on Saturday Night Live to promote the album.

Following the album's release, the intersection of Linden Boulevard and 192nd Street in Queens will be renamed Malik "Phife Dawg" Taylor Way in memory of the late rapper.
