Putin’s spokesman slams Cameron’s remarks on striking Russia with British weapons as escalation

Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, has called British Foreign Secretary David Cameron's statements about the possibility of British weapons striking targets inside Russia dangerous, the Russian propaganda outlet RIA Novosti reported on May 3.

Accusing the West of “escalation”, Peskov also mentioned the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron, who has repeatedly allowed the deployment of Western troops to Ukraine.

“Another very dangerous statement,” Putin’s mouthpiece said.

“We see such a verbal escalation on the part of official representatives, we see it at the level of heads of state – when it comes to France, at a more expert level – when it comes to the UK.”

Traditionally, Peskov accused the West of “direct escalation of tensions around the Ukrainian conflict (as Russia calls the war it unleashed against Ukraine)” and “warned” of a “threat to European security.”

“Here we see such a dangerous tendency to escalate tensions in the statements of the official representatives,” he said.

Cameron announced during his visit to Kyiv earlier that Britain did not object to Ukraine using British weapons to strike at Russian territory and noted that Ukraine should decide for itself whether to do so.

Macron also previously reaffirmed the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine and noted that such a decision could be made under two conditions: if the Russians break through the front line and if there is a request from Kyiv. At the same time, he noted that the Ukrainian side has not yet made such a request.
