Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is entrenched in an information "aquarium" and has no intention of stopping, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a press briefing after talks with European Parliament President Roberta Mecela in Kyiv on May 9.

"We must protect Ukraine. It is our future and our independence. Putin is not going to stop. He is in this information aquarium, in this world built by his special services, he lives in it," he said, urging Kyiv's partners to continue helping the war-torn country, which is fighting not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe

"We are fighting for all of Ukraine, we are part of Europe, so we are fighting for ourselves and for Europe."

Official negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union are set to begin as early as June 2024, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced during the briefing.

"The European Parliament will help Ukraine in any way possible to advance along the necessary steps on its European path," Metsola said.

Ukraine will remain a priority for the European Union, she said. The European Parliament "was the first European Union institution to call for granting Ukraine candidate status, and later to open the accession negotiations," Metsola said.

“The European Union supports all 10 points of Ukraine's "peace plan. "We need peace with justice, with freedom, and with dignity. Nothing can be decided without full agreement Ukrainians."
