Details: This is Putin's first foreign trip since his sham re-election.

During the visit, Putin will hold talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing on 16 May in both private and more open sessions, as well as one-on-one over tea and later with senior officials from both sides. This was reported by Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov at a briefing in Moscow.

Ushakov emphasised that "the most important thing in China is to have tea face-to-face."
