Pussycat Doll Kaya Jones addressed ex Nick Carter’s rape allegations, saying she’s “no longer keeping his secrets”

News broke today, November 22nd, that former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has been accused of rape by singer Melissa Schuman. And now, Carter’s ex-girlfriend and Pussycat Doll Kaya Jones says she’s “disgusted” by Carter’s alleged actions.

Schuman, a former member of the early-aughts band Dream, alleges that Carter raped her in 2004 after inviting her and a friend to his home. She outlined the encounter in a candid post on her personal blog, and said she was ultimately “broken” by the experience.

Carter released a statement today to People.com denying the allegations, stating,

“I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations. Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual,” he said.

He continued,

“We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally. This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”

His ex, former Pussycat Doll Kaya Jones, however, has come out in firm support of Schuman in a November 22nd tweet, writing,

“Nick Carter was my boyfriend while I was in the Pussycat Dolls. He knew about the abuse I endured and did nothing. I guess I now know why. Disgusting. Disgraceful. Disgusted in my heart. Especially because he was a victim of abuse himself. Shame on you Nick!”

She also strongly implies that she was aware of other allegations of similar natures against Carter, but has remained silent until now.

While of course due process must be respected in these cases, this is not the first time a woman has accused Carter of sexual abuse. As Schumer stated in her blog post, she herself only had the courage to come forward with her story after reading an account from another woman that was published in a RadarOnline.com piece on October 26th, 2017.

Carter was also once suspected — though nothing was ever confirmed — of assaulting then-girlfriend Paris Hilton in 2004 when she had noticable bruises on her body a week after their breakup. Hilton never confirmed nor denied that Carter was responsible for the injuries, and Carter denied responsibility when pressed by media at the time.

“I’ll tell you one thing: I didn’t touch her,” he told People.com. “I’m not that kind of guy. I would never do that.”

While the situation is still developing, we sincerely hope Shuman’s allegations are taken seriously. We thank her for her bravery, and are certain that her words will give other victims the courage to come forward.
