Push for Equal Pay continues at State Capitol

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) –The Business and Professional Women’s Club Alongside the American Association of University Women are Holding a Press Conference in the State Capitol Rotunda at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday.

Both organizations lead advocacy efforts for women in Pennsylvania by promoting programs and projects focused on pay equity, workplace equity, plus personal and professional matters.

The President of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Pennsylvania, Michelle Holler, will lead the press conference, followed by comments from multiple lawmakers and leaders.

Some speakers, familiar State representative names, like Democratic State Representative Donna Bullock and State Democratic Representative Jennifer O’Mara.

Bullock is the prime sponsor for House Bill 98 which addresses equal pay. O’Mara is a co-sponsor on the bill.

All say on average, women employed in the U.S. lose a total of more than $1.6 trillion dollars every year due to the wage gap. They say by not raising the minimum wage in our State, families have less money.

That’s due to the $7.25 an hour minimum wage, keeping them below the poverty line.

We’re told House Bill 98 will be running in labor committee Wednesday with an expected vote, but probably won’t see the state house floor until next month.
