The launch of FlashStack CI is notable for a few reasons. First, Pure's partnership with Cisco on converged infrastructure could turn out to be competitive with EMC, which bought out most of the networking giant's stake in VCE.
Meanwhile, Pure's tight coupling with Cisco's UCS platform may give it some throughput to grow.
According to Pure, FlashStack CI is delivered through its partners, validated and integrated with Cisco and VMware. The first configurations include PureStorage FlashArray 400 Series arrays combined with Cisco UCS blade servers and Nexus switches and VMware's vSphere 5 and Horizon 6. The stack is designed for virtual server and desktop implementations.
Options include:
FlashStack CI for virtual desktops, which includes VMware Horizon, PureStorage's 400 Series arrays, Cisco UCS blades and Nexus switches. The idea is that the stack can support up to 3,000 desktops in one rack.
FlashStack CI for virtual servers, which is powered by VMware's vSphere 5.5 with similar configurations.
Pure is providing a reference architecture as well as one call support.
