Pumpkin Pie Shaped Like a Carriage Goes Viral, Wins Thanksgiving
Christine H. McConnell decided to give the classic pumpkin pie a dazzling fairy tale makeover. And a fairy godmother would have a hard time topping her creation.
Take a closer look. That beautiful pumpkin carriage is, in fact, a masterfully crafted pumpkin pie. Christine’s longstanding passion for baked treats led her to start experimenting in her own kitchen a few years ago. She took advantage of online resources such as blogs and videos to fine-tune her baking skills.
Her love of fairy tales perfectly matched her affinity for baking to help her master this recent undertaking. Christine posted images on both Imgur and her Instagram page to show the process of creating this impressive pie.
The gauntlet has been thrown. Get ready to up your pie game this holiday season. Christine told Yahoo Makers that she has a baking book coming out in March, so she doesn’t want to reveal all her secrets just yet. But she did share a few tips for those who want to give the pie a try:
“Make sure the pie dough you’re working with is cold and has plenty of moisture.
“For the Crust Cage: Cut parchment paper into triangles, butter them and apply them to the exterior of an oven safe bowl. Use this as your mold and bake separately from the pie. Apply your pastry over the buttered bowl. Once baked; gently pull out any exposed parchment paper, as this will loosen the crust and make removing from the mold easier. Gently place over your baked pie and either leave hollow or fill with meringue.
“I made an Italian meringue, which requires a candy thermometer and a bit more patience, but the benefit is it never weeps.
Additional pieces of the carriage were attached with a small dab of royal icing.”
Christine shared that she will be making pecan pie (her favorite) for Thanksgiving with her parents.
