Public meeting announced for Route 43/Elk River Ridge replacement in McDonald Co.

McDONALD COUNTY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) invites the public to participate in an online meeting beginning Sunday, May 26, to discuss the replacement of the Missouri Route 43 bridge over the Elk River in McDonald County.

The virtual meeting will be accessible for two weeks, from Sunday, May 26, through Sunday, June 9, via the project webpage here.

The project involves demolishing the existing bridge and constructing a new one and includes stabilizing the Elk River stream bank northeast of the bridge. The new bridge will be 30 feet longer, six feet wider, and one foot higher than the current structure.

Constructed in 1960, the current bridge requires regular maintenance due to its deteriorating condition. It is estimated around 1,500 vehicles daily cross the current structure.

For those unable to join the online meeting, MoDOT’s Southwest District Office can be contacted at 417.895.7600 for alternative ways to share information and collect feedback.

The total estimated cost of the project is $5.4 million.
