Public health alert issued for two name brands, Walmart brand of taquitos
The USDA issued a public health alert over a not-food-in-your-food situation involving beef taquitos, chicken taquitos, beef chimichangas and Walmart, among other stores.
Ajinomoto Foods makes those products, which are sold under the Jose Ole’, Casa Mamita and Great Value (Walmart’s house label) brands. They contain diced green chilies from Sun Valley Foods and, apparently, possibly also plastic.
The USDA says Ajinomoto “identified pieces of hard plastic in their production process and in a barrel of diced green chilies that was received from ... Sun Valley Foods.”
Sun Valley Foods recalled the diced green chilies, a move that could trigger recalls of several other products that use the chilies.
As for the products in this alert, they haven’t been officially recalled. But the USDA recommends consumers toss them out or return them to the store for a refund, the same direction the agency gives for a recalled product.
