Protesters flood Hong Kong mall
In Yuen Long, hundreds of black-clad protesters held a sit-in to mark the five-month anniversary of an attack in a train station by an armed mob who beat up innocent bystanders and protesters.
Police were criticized at the time for not responding quickly enough to calls for help, and for not arresting any alleged culprits on the scene.
In the Harbour City mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, small groups of protesters also gathered, in one instance surrounding several men they claimed to be undercover police officers, calling them "black dogs".
Dozens of riot police later swept through the mall, chasing some protesters off amid heated scenes and cursing. Some shops were forced to close.
The protesters are angry at perceived Chinese meddling in the city's freedoms guaranteed under the "one country, two systems" formula when it returned to Chinese rule in 1997.
