Although fans are frustrated by the fact that Tom Brady will not be on the gridiron for the first four games of the season, there may be a few upsides to the impending suspension.

Brady has spent the last sixteen years grinding out Hall of Fame caliber seasons in New England. He has dedicated a majority of his time finding ways to keep the Patriots extremely competitive.

Most would agree that he has greatly exceeded expectations. Pushing age 39, Brady may be in great shape but even he needs a breather from time to time. Sitting out the first four games will allow him to rest up for what figures to be another deep playoff run.

During the four game suspension, the road opener against the Arizona Cardinals obviously presents the biggest challenge to New England at the start of the season. With the next three games being at home, New England should be able to manage two wins with Brady on suspension.

By all indications, Jimmy Garoppolo is ready to step in and at least protect the football and manage the game. The Patriots will finally find out what kind of talent Garoppolo possesses. He has spent two years working behind Brady. At this point, he should be able to step out of the supporting role and prove he was worthy of a second round pick.

With Garoppolo at the helm, opposing teams could have a more difficult time reading New England’s plays. It’s well known that Brady will consistently look for Gronkowski and Edelman. Garoppolo is working on establishing connections with his teammates, but it’s still unknown which targets will provide him with the greatest chemistry. With a more unpredictable read on New England, the opposition might be less prepared.

Hopefully Tom Brady is able to make the most of his time on the sidelines. The different perspective could be refreshing for him. One thing is for sure, when Brady does return, the team will be heading into the heart of their season with a well-rested quarterback that will be chomping at the bit.
