'Prometheus' viral ad for robot David-8 features Fassbender

Still from 'Prometheus'

A few weeks ago the fictitious Weyland Industries, featured in Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated film Prometheus, released a video of the CEO speaking at a TED conference, set in the 2070s. Now the "corporation" has released another viral video.

Made to look like a sales promotion, this video is an ad promoting David-8, a robot with an eerily human-like appearance. Portrayed by Michael Fassbender, the ad shows him being interviewed about his human-like attributes.

Originally considered an Alien prequel for Scott and a return to the genre, the sci-fi action film’s latest installment in the campaign in the form of a faux ad for a humanoid depicts its first stirrings, it imitating emotions, speaking as well as performing tasks humans might find “distressing or unethical.”

It ends on a close-up of his fingerprint with the Weyland Industries logo, copyright 2078.

With Prometheus, Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) shows a team of explorers on an expedition to find the origins of mankind on Earth, but who get involved a terrifying battle to save the world.

Also, released April 17 was a viral puzzle with different images posted in various media outlets from MTV to Entertainment Weekly for fans to decipher the code and uncover David-8's emotions. The code then must be cracked at http://www.ProjectPrometheus.com for the next step.

The film costars Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Charlize Theron (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Guy Pearce (The King’s Speech).

Prometheus rolls out in 3D on May 30-June 1 and June 7-8 worldwide.
