Project Vida welcomes first residents to psychiatry program

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Project Vida Health Center recognized their first resident students who have been selected to join their community-based psychiatry residency program on Wednesday, March 20.

The program aims to train the next generations of psychiatrists to address mental health challenges in underserved communities, according to the health center.

The selected first residents will start their residency on July 1, 2024:

  • Dr. Roberto Ayala Minero – Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado

  • Dr. Beatriz Deras Fuentes – Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado

  • Dr. David Morin –  Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine

“We are thrilled to welcome three exceptional physicians to our program. Their passion for medicine, dedication to patient care and commitment to excellence align perfectly with our program’s values,” Psychiatry Residency Program Director Dr. Cynthai Garza said.

Project Vida is also announcing that their northeast health center has received a $650,000 grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services. The funding will be used for renovations to the clinic and add more staff to the residency program.
