Project Refresh, RCHD giving to people in need with monthly Shower Day

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Project Refresh teaming up with the Richmond County Health Department to hold its monthly Shower Day to help get necessary resources to people in need.

The Richmond County Health Department and other partners team up every month to bring the community an event that reaches out to those in need that may not be able to find these resources somewhere else.

“God just spoke to my heart, just to reach out to our more vulnerable population, and people are just in need right now, of all sorts of things,” said LisaAnn Wheeler Patient Navigator for Georgia Department of Health.” So, there’s food here, haircuts, manicures, clothing. The showers are here.”

Wheeler is always striving to get what the people need and looking for more community involvement.

“I’m always looking for partners, for venders to come out. Community partners to come out. I am always looking for donations of clothing, shoes, and all those types of things,” said Wheeler.

The event allows people to be able to find free resources and get the essentials in one place. There is even free public transportation to and from the event.

“There are resources out there to help people, but they are unaware of it so events like this help us to know what’s out there for help,” said Katherine Riley, Project Refresh Shower Day Attendee.” I come every month, in hopes of finding other resources for work, and finding resources for clothing.”

In January, the event brought in over 200 people, and each month continues to bring smiles to everyone involved.

“It’s just such a beautiful way to spend a couple hours with your community bonding over just loving up on each other,” said Wheeler.

Project Refresh Shower Day is not only important but crucial to the community, and attendees say they are thankful for the people who work for this event and look forward to it each month.

“I am grateful, and without these services, I really wouldn’t have anything. I wouldn’t have anything at all,” said Riley.

Their next event is on March 28th from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M., with pickup locations at Gap Ministries, Center for Hope, Masters Table, and the Broad Street Transfer Station starting at 8:30 A.M.
