Principal faces theft charge over missing cash at Helen L. Beeler School in Evesham

EVESHAM - A school principal is accused of taking funds from her building's main office.

Colleen Schroeder allegedly took more than $700 in cash from the Helen L. Beeler Elementary School in late February, according to Evesham police.

The money belonged to Evesham's school district, police said.

Schroeder makes about $139,000 a year as principal of the Caldwell Avenue school, according to state pension records.

Schroeder allegedly took a red canvas bank bag that contained $709.25, according to a probable cause statement.

It alleges surveillance video showed the principal "leaving the location with the bank bag visible in her bag."

Schroeder was arrested on March 1 and charged with theft.

The charge is only an allegation. Schroeder has not been convicted in the case.

Schroeder, who was released on a summons, is currently on an unrelated leave, according to Evesham School Superintendent Justin Smith.

She will remain on leave pending resolution of the charge against her, Smith said.

Both the school district and township police provided no additional comment.
