Prince William and Duchess Kate Stay in Beachfront Cottage on Vacation

Prince William and Duchess Kate’s recent family vacation to Tresco in the Isles of Scilly was nostalgic and picture-perfect for a number of reasons, not least of which was their charming accommodations. According to the Daily Mail, the royal family spent their weeklong getaway at the Dolphin House, a six-bedroom stone cottage located just steps from the beach and with stunning views of the Round Island Lighthouse.

According to the Dolphin House website, the cottage features a porch that leads to a lounge with a fireplace and ocean views. A nearby kitchen features a colorful pop of royal blue tile, while the dining room boasts an almost cave-like feel with stone walls and a looming, textured painting on one wall. A back patio features “limited sea views,” but the bedrooms upstairs have decidedly unobstructed views of the sea.

Ten-foot-thick granite walls guard the house—a likely draw for the family. According to the website, going rates for the cottage range widely depending upon the season; during off-seasons, rents start at $2,850 a week, while more in-demand seasons can cost upwards of $6,350 a week. Tresco and the Isles of Scilly in general hold special meaning for Prince William, who used to vacation there with his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, as well as with his younger brother, Prince Harry. The royal family was photographed riding their bikes around the car-free island back in 1989. Importantly, also, William will eventually inherit Tresco, as it is considered to be part of the Duchy of Cornwall, his father's estate.
