Following the success of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a new game in the franchise has been announced, from the developers of Dead Cells.

As the name implies, The Rogue Prince of Persia is a rogue-lite, which means that you'll be running through the same areas but with a random offering of abilities on each playthrough. Players can then try to figure out what works for you, so you can make it just that little bit further each time before dying and getting sent back to the start.

As well as the multi-weapon combat that is a staple of the genre, the game will fold in the platforming and parkour that the Prince of Persia series is known for.

Unlike in The Lost Crown, you'll actually control the Prince for this one, as he fights to save the Persian Empire's capital city Ctesiphon from being taken over by an army of possessed Hun soldiers. Rather than the Sands of Time from the PS2 and GameCube days, the mystical artifact this time is a special bola, which allows the Prince to be resurrected each time he dies.

Publisher Ubisoft is releasing the game into Steam Early Access next month (May 14), so developer Evil Empire can use fan feedback to polish the game before the 1.0 launch.

Meanwhile, Persian-American electronic music artist ASADI is creating the soundtrack, fusing traditional and modern sonorities.
