Prime minister, Governor General twitter congrats on news of royal pregnancy

OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Gov. Gen. David Johnston have both tweeted their congratulations to Prince William and his wife, Kate, on the announcement of her pregnancy.

The prime minister passed on his best wishes and those of his wife Laureen, calling it wonderful news.

The Governor General, who is travelling in South America, says the news reached him in Peru.

He says he and his wife, Sharon, are overjoyed to hear that the royal couple are expecting their first child.

The Duchess of Cambridge is in hospital being treated for a severe form of morning sickness.

There has been no announcement of when the child is due.

The baby will be third in line to the British throne after Prince Charles and Prince William.
