Primary Election results in key Big Country races

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – In a contentious and anticipated Primary Election Tuesday night, it would seem that the Big Country will remain under its familiar leadership.

Here is a quick look at how our races panned out:

Taylor County Sheriff

  • (I) Ricky Bishop – 77% of votes

  • Shay Bailey – 18% of votes

  • Elias Carrasquillo – 5% of votes

  • (I) Randy Williams – 84%

  • Javier Villarreal – 16%

Texas Republican Primary ballot propositions

On Texas ballots, republican voters were asked ‘yes’ or ‘no’ opinion questions. All 13 of Texas’ Republican Primary ballot propositions were voted ‘yes’ by Taylor County and Texas voters, in general. However, the GOP made a clarifying statement that this section was merely an opinion poll and not a vote which would definitively change any policy.

Taylor County: Yes – 89%; No – 11%

Proposition 4: Ending undocumented immigrant services
Taylor County: Yes – 85%; No – 15%

Proposition 5: Undocumented immigrant amnesty ban
Taylor County: Yes – 81%; No – 19%
State of Texas: Yes – 83%; No – 17%

Proposition 6: National Guard deployment
Taylor County: Yes – 78%; No – 22%

Proposition 7: Making gold and silver legal tender
Taylor County: Yes – 70%; No – 30%
State of Texas: Yes – 77%; No – 23%

Proposition 8: Vaccine consent

Republican State Representative – District 71

  • (I) Stan Lambert – 53%

Republican State Representative – District 72

  • (I) Drew Darby – 52%

  • Stormy Bradley – 48%

The above results are attributed by BCH’s San Angelo sister station. District 72 is made up the following counties: Runnels, Coleman, Howard, Glasscock, Sterling, Reagan, Irion, Tom Green, Coke, and Concho.

US Representative – District 19

  • (I) Jodey Arrington – 83%

  • Chance Ferguson – 8%

  • Vance Boyd – 6%

  • Ryan Zink – 3%

The above results are from 91% of precincts reporting. Although the district seat is located in Lubbock, District 19 is also made up of the following Big Country counties: Callahan, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Mitchell, Nolan, Scurry, Shackelford, Stonewall, Taylor, and Throckmorton.
