Bus passengers in Cornwall will face increases in some fares from Sunday.

Transport for Cornwall said the change was due to "rises in inflation and operating costs".

The new price increases vary from 20p to £16 depending on the type of fare.

Several fares for transport in and around the county, including adult single tickets in bands two to five, will see no change.

'Small change'

Transport for Cornwall said: "We’ve been subsidising these [fares] to keep them at the heavily reduced prices since we introduced our Bus Fares Pilot in April 2022, allowing passengers to save millions of pounds.

"But rises in inflation and operating costs mean that you will now see a small change in the price of some of our fares."

Transport for Cornwall said bus operators "continue to work" with Cornwall Council and the Department for Transport to cap all single bus tickets at £2 until 31 December 2024.

From Sunday an adult band one single fare will increase from £1.60 to £2.00, with a return changing from £2.40 to £3.50.

There will be no change to adult, child or family tickets in the Cornwall fare plan, but town fares will increase to a maximum of £56 for an adult town month ticket.

Children under five remain eligible for free travel under the new amendments.
