SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — President Biden is back in his hometown of Scranton on Tuesday as he delivered a tax cut plan that he says will benefit the middle class at the Scranton Cultural Center in Lackawanna County.

28/22 News begins our team coverage with I-Team lead investigative reporter Andy Mehalshick who was there for the speech inside the Scranton Cultural Center to an invite-only audience of about 200 people.

President Biden insists that programs like Social Security and Medicare will be in jeopardy if Donald Trump wins the White House.

Mr. Biden talked about a tax plan that he says will benefit middle-class families. He says if re-elected he will extend childcare tax credits that will pull some three million children out of poverty. The President urged voters to turn out to protect working-class families. 28/22 News also spoke to two people in the audience after his speech.

Exclusive one-on-one interview with President Joe Biden

“I see it through the eyes of Scranton. That’s a fact where honesty and decency matter when faith matters, where family is everything when we grew up Wall Street didn’t build this country, the middle class built this country, and unions built the middle class,” said President Biden.

“I think it was absolutely fantastic. It hit all the points with the taxes. Taxing the rich, make sure they pay. A lot of us are suffering.” said Donna Hines of Wilkes-Barre.

“What did you think about the president’s speech,” Mehalshick asked.

“It was very uplifting and I thought it was great for us older people on Social Security, he’s definitely going to back Social Security so he’s very uplifting,”

Recent polling shows a very close race. Pennsylvania is once again seen as a must-win to win the white house.
