Storms moving into Mid-Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — It is shaping up to be an active day across Mid-Michigan, with multiple rounds of storms in the forecast, some of which could be severe this evening.

The severe weather is possible across all of Mid-Michigan, but the best chance will be south of I-96, where we have a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) from the Storm Prediction Center. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) is in place for all areas north of Lansing.

The first round of rain that we are expecting will weaken as it moves into our area. So, its potential for producing severe weather is relatively low. However, within these storms, we will have the chance for isolated strong wind gusts and lots of lightning.

A second round of scattered thunderstorms will develop this evening, around 4 or 5 o’clock. These are the storms that our StormTracker 6 Team is monitoring for severe weather. These storms will have the potential to produce large hail and damaging wind gusts. We also have the threat of a few isolated tornadoes within some of the more robust storms that develop over the area.

The most likely timeframe for severe weather will be between 4 and 9 o’clock. Be sure that you have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings throughout the day.
