PREP VB: Bischoff boosts RVA over Bonanza

Oct. 5—BONANZA — Senior Emma Bischoff provided 18 kills, five aces, three blocks and navigated the Rogue Valley Adventist volleyball team back from a big first-set deficit as RVA finished with a 25-23, 25-8, 25-16 victory over Bonanza on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in Mountain Valley League play.

Bonanza (10-7, 4-2 MVL) stormed out to a 7-0 lead in the first set before the fourth-ranked Red Tail Hawks (13-1, 9-0) shook off the sluggish start and jumped ahead, 22-17.

After the Antlers went on a run of their own, Bischoff served out the final four points during which she landed a pair of aces and captured the set.

The Red Tail Hawks received seven kills, three aces and four digs from senior Michaela Porter, while senior Destinee Quattrocelli added 15 assists, four kills and five digs and freshman Naomi Jackson totaled 15 assists, four digs and two aces.

EAGLE POINT 3, NORTH EUGENE 2: At Eagle Point, showing tremendous fortitude in a marathon match, host Eagle Point was able to use a late service run by Alexandria Esquibel to claim the fourth set 35-33 and then the Eagles rallied from down 9-4 and 11-6 in the fifth set to gain the Midwestern League victory.

Eagle Point (6-6, 3-4 MWL) was able to squeeze out a 25-19, 21-25, 16-25, 35-33, 15-11 victory.

Down 11-6 in the pivotal final set, Emma Kness was able to serve out for the win and finished the match with 13 kills and 22 digs.

Addison Holcomb had 16 kills and 20 digs, Baylee Mullen had 14 kills and Abby Trautman supplied seven kills, four blocks and 19 digs.

Also for the Eagles, Makynlee Schauffler provided 33 assists and Jaylinn Holte had 29 digs.

Esquibel came up to serve with her team down 33-32 in the fourth set and recorded an ace to tie before her next two serves were not handled and hit over by the Highlanders (10-6, 5-2).

THURSTON 3, ASHLAND 0: At Springfield, Ashland's Flannery Lundgren, Elle Lewis and Stella Crane each came up with six blocks but the Grizzlies were unable to slow Thurston overall in a 25-13, 25-12, 25-23 loss in Midwestern League play.

Lundgren led Ashland (0-10, 0-7 MWL) with four kills, while Maile Cooper had 11 digs and Lainie Carter supplied four aces.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, DOUGLAS 1: At Winston, Douglas played "super scrappy," according to Cascade Christian coach Rob Kleker, but the Challengers were able to set aside a first-set loss to claim the Far West League victory, 21-25, 25-11, 25-14, 25-20.

Poppy Freeman notched 21 kills and seven aces for Cascade Christian (12-6, 6-1 FWL), while Claire Knips had seven kills. Ellie Harrington provided a monstrous defensive effort with 37 digs, and Molly Griffin contributed 34 assists.

After the first set, the Challengers were able to play with more precision and passed the ball better and finally found the floor against the gritty Trojans (5-8, 3-3).

ST. MARY'S 3, ROGUE RIVER 0: St. Mary's went on a pair of scoring streaks in the opening frame to set the tone as the Crusaders grabbed a 25-7, 25-17, 25-14 victory over Rogue River for their sixth straight win.

Senior setter Kaitlyn Hansen distributed 32 assists on 38 total points for St. Mary's (12-5, 5-1 Far West League). Fellow senior Kelsey Dunn was the primary beneficiary of Hansen's set-ups with 12 kills to go with three blocks.

Albie Borovansky provided 21 digs, two aces and went 12-for-12 from the service line on a night where St. Mary's missed just two serves for the match.

In the opening set, Noelle Thickett served 10 consecutive points and Sydney Alexander later followed with a six-point run. Emma Johnston contributed 17 digs and five kills to help drop Rogue River to 3-9 overall and 0-7 in FWL play.
