PREP SOCCER: Murray, Cascade Christian top Lost River

Oct. 5—Autumn Murray tallied two goals for the Cascade Christian girls soccer team, which relied on its backline to shut down Lost River for a 3-0 District 4 victory Monday at Lithia & Driveway Fields.

The senior Murray provided the Challengers (3-5-1, 3-4-1 Dist. 4) with all the support the team would need after she collected the ball at the top of the box and found the back of the net in the 20th minute, as Cascade Christian went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

About 10 minutes into the second half, sophomore Emma Coats gathered Murray's shot, which was deflected off the hands of Lost River's goalkeeper, to put it in the back of the net.

Murray later scored again from the top of the box on a set-up from Bella Williams to secure the victory.

Defensively, the Challengers' Jordynn Jones anchored the backline, where freshmen Amelia Vanlandingham and Mae Ferreira also helped limit the Raiders (1-7, 1-7) to just one shot on goal.

NORTH VALLEY 3, ST. MARY'S 1: At Merlin, short-handed St. Mary's came out aggressive offensively but it wasn't enough as North Valley took control in the first half with two goals in two minutes to win its eighth straight.

The Crusaders (3-5-1, 3-4-1 Dist. 4), who were without three starters due to injury, scored their lone goal on an own goal off of a corner kick from senior Carmel Ashland in the second half. Senior Lucy Maxwell provided much of the pressure offensively for the Crusaders.

The Knights improved to 8-1 overall and 8-0 in District 4 play.
