Prep work to begin soon on Monroe Loop Trail

MONROE — Tree removal and brush clearing could start as soon as today along the Monroe Loop Trail.

The Monroe Loop Trail is a multi-community project that is creating a six-mile biking and walking path. The project involves Monroe County, the City of Monroe, Monroe Charter Township and Frenchtown Charter Township.

"The required property easements and agreements have been secured to allow for the trail to be constructed and clearing to begin," said Monroe County in a news release.

"This initial phase of the fieldwork will occur along North Custer Road and other points along the trail route," said the release. "The work on North Custer Road will take place between Munson Park and the Raisinville Road bridge. While every effort will be made to minimize disruptions, occasional single lane closures will be necessary for the safety of workers and motorists. Superior Innovative Solutions is the contractor who will be performing the work."
