A 33-year-old Anderson woman who was 8-9 months pregnant died early Monday morning when the vehicle she was driving was in a head-on collision.

California Highway Patrol reported the unborn child of the victim, Ashley Rose Slavens, died in the crash as well.

It appears the woman was driving a 2010 Chevy Equinox west on Bowman Road near Adams Road when around 4:40 a.m., for unknown reasons, the driver crossed the double yellow lines in the pathway of an eastbound 2018 Ford F-150, said the CHP.

The two vehicles collided head-on at such an impact both drivers reportedly had to be extricated by rescue personnel.

Joshua James Gay, 39, of Cottonwood, who was driving the pickup, suffered minor and moderate injuries, CHP said. He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

The driver of the Equinox was also transported by ambulance to Mercy where medical staff pronounced her and her unborn child deceased, CHP reported. The identity of the woman has been withheld until next of kin has been notified by the Tehama County Coroner’s Office.
