Predicting the Seahawks 53-man roster: Linebackers and Special Teams

With training camp around the corner, we will go through each position group for the Seahawks to predict their Week 1 roster. So far, we have looked at the entire offense and the defensive line. We now look at who could be the linebackers for the Seahawks in 2017.

Bobby Wagner

Wagner is arguably the best linebacker in the NFL. He has been named a First-Team All-Pro two out of the last three years and has been to the Pro Bowl the last three years. He has over 400 tackles in his five-year career, and he also has 14 sacks. Wagner excels as a run stuffer and can comfortably play zone coverage. The most underrated part of his game is his ability to blitz and get to the quarterback. Wagner will be the centerpiece of the Seattle defense for years to come.

K.J. Wright

If Wagner was not a part of this defense, Wright would get the publicity of the best linebacker on the roster. Playing as an outside linebacker, Wright excels in coverage. But he is no slouch stuffing the run. Wright racked up 70 solo tackles and 54 assisted tackles in 2016. He was also named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career last season. If Wright was on almost any other team, he would be the centerpiece of their defense.

Cassius Marsh

When the Seahawks drafted Marsh, they saw him as a pass rushing defensive end. But with the depth on the defensive line, Seattle began to use him as a stand-up linebacker off the edge last season. After being moved to this spot, he put up three sacks and twelve solo tackles in limited time. Marsh will likely have the same role in 2017.

Arthur Brown

Brown will be another Pete Carroll redemption project. Drafted in the second round by the Ravens in 2013, Brown has not made much of an impact. Spending a lot of time as a special teamer last year, he will likely have the same role in Seattle. However, the lack of depth at the position will help Brown make the team.

Michael Wilhoite

The Seahawks signed Wilhoite as a free agent this offseason, mainly to be the emergency backup for Wagner and Wright. Wilhoite will be used in coverage situations because of his struggles as a run stopper. He will likely see a lot of time on special teams for Seattle.

Kevin Pierre-Louis

Pierre-Louis is another player that will benefit from the lack of depth at the linebacker position. He will make the team due to his ability to play well on special teams.
