Sad news for fans of watching extra-terrestrials ripping grizzled human beings to shreds: the Predator reboot has been delayed by six months.

The Shane Black-directed film was set to release on February 9, 2018, but The Wrap reports that date has been pushed back to August 3.

The film began shooting back in February of this year and we've heard nothing about filming problems, so we're guessing this is likely down to 20th Century Fox taking a look at its release schedules.

The Predator stars Olivia Munn (Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse), Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce in Logan), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones) and, of course, a butt-ugly alien monster.

Although the film is being touted as a jumping-on point for anyone new to the franchise, certain references to the mythology will place it after the first two movies and before 2010's Predators.

The film will be rated R, thanks to Deadpool, but don't expect it to be ridiculously grim and gritty, this is Shane Black we are talking about.

Black previously told Digital Spy that his movie would be fun, stating: "I think there's a tremendous mistake today in assuming that a movie has to choose one tone solely, consistently throughout, and just stick to that tone."

While we're on the subject, Fox's Alien: Covenant is set to release next month, and you can watch a trailer right here:
