Prattville police investigate death of 3-month-old
PRATTVILLE - Police in Prattville are investigating the death of a three-month-old infant.
The girl died earlier this week in a local hospital, said Police Chief Mark Thompson.
"It is standard procedure to investigate the death of any child, and the findings will be presented to a future session of the grand jury for review," he said.
Thompson would not release much information on the case, citing its ongoing nature. He declined to release the names of the parents, since no criminal charges have been filed. The mother was sleeping with the baby on a couch and apparently rolled over on the baby, smothering her, the chief said. The baby was taken to the hospital for treatment but later died, he said.
Thompson was asked if foul play is suspected.
"It is standard procedure to investigate the death of any child, and the findings will be presented to a future session of the grand jury for review," he repeated.
