Prairieville man accused of arson, attempted murder arrested

ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — A Prairieville man is accused of setting fire to a building while someone was inside.

The Prairieville Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 15000 block of Palmetto Lane around midnight on Tuesday, May 21. Officials learned that someone was inside at the time of the fire but escaped.

Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal deputies determined the fire was intentionally set and identified Christopher McCumber, 53, as a suspect. SFM said that McCumber was a resident of the building.

McCumber was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on one count each for attempted second-degree murder and aggravated arson. He was taken into custody by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office on outstanding warrants.
