PPD: Two caught after chase that spanned two counties, multiple accidents

NORTH ALABAMA (WHNT) — The Priceville Police Department (PPD) says two people were taken into custody Tuesday after a chase that spanned multiple jurisdictions and caused multiple accidents, including one involving a police officer.

According to the department, the chase began in Falkville when a person attempted to cash a fraudulent check and struck a vehicle while trying to flee from officers.

PPD said as the vehicle approached Priceville, officers attempted to stop it but the chase continued north on Interstate 65. The chase then went east on Interstate 565, where a PPD officer and another motorist not involved in the chase got into a crash. No serious injuries were reported in that crash.

The vehicle exited I-565 at Mooresville Road, where it was involved in an accident with another driver near Mooresville Road and Old Mooresville Road. PPD said there were injuries during that wreck, but did not share details on those injuries at this time. Both people ran away, but were caught a short time later.

Stanford Renard Dean, 35, of Atlanta, Ga., was charged with first-degree forgery, first-degree possession of a forged instrument and felony attempt to elude. He is being held a the Morgan County Jail on a bond of $110,000.

Laveander Lamar Ashford, 36, of Huntsville, Ala., was charged with first-degree forgery, first-degree possession of a forged instrument and misdemeanor attempt to elude. He is being held at the Morgan County Jail on a bond of $10,300.

The investigation is still ongoing, and future charges may be pending.
