PPD arrests six-time felon found with gun and body armor

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A wanted felon was arrested in Pueblo last week after he tried to run away from police, and was later found in possession of weapons and body armor.

According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, May 10, PPD detectives encountered a man in the area of Lake Avenue and Pueblo Boulevard who they knew had active warrants.

The man, identified as 35-year-old Joshua Trujillo, exited a vehicle and went into a convenience store. When he left the store, detectives and patrol officers attempted to contact him, at which point he began to run as he grabbed a gun from his waistband.

After a brief struggle, PPD placed Trujillo into custody and retrieved the gun. Trujillo was found to have six previous felony convictions. PPD said another gun was found in plain view in Trujillo’s car, as well as tactical body armor, what appeared to be methamphetamine, and a large amount of cash.

Trujillo’s vehicle was towed and he was booked into Pueblo County Detention Center for Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender. According to PPD, additional charges are likely pending after detectives obtain a search warrant for his car.
