Power supply restrictions to ease next week — Ukrenergo
Ukraine's electricity supply may improve next week, but power outages will become unavoidable in summer and fall, national power grid operator Ukrenergo said on May 16.
Ukrenergo CEO Volodymyr Kudrytskyi told Ukrainian TV broadcasters that as air temperatures rise in the coming days, the load on the power grid will fall.
At the same time, he noted that it will be impossible to completely avoid outages during the summer, when air conditioning is in use, and in the fall, when Ukrainians will use electrical heaters again.
“Current consumption restrictions are being imposed on all consumers and evenly distributed across all regions,” said Kudrytskyi.
“Rebuilding and repairing the energy system damaged by Russian attacks will take a long time.”
Earlier on May 16, Yuriy Boyko, a member of Ukrenergo’s supervisory board, said that current power supply restrictions in Ukraine could persist until August.
Since May 14, consumers faced scheduled blackouts across the country, as Ukraine’s generation capacity and EU imports are not enough to cover the demand, after several months of Russian air strikes on critical infrastructure.
