In what's being described as a Hollywood first, the new Power Rangers film is set to feature the first gay superhero protagonist on the big screen, upfront and center.
In an early preview, The Hollywood Reporter revealed details of a scene in which Yellow Ranger Trini comes to terms with her sexual orientation.
"For Trini, really she's questioning a lot about who she is," said director Dean Israelite in an interview. "She hasn't fully figured it out yet. I think what's great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, 'That's OK.' The movie is saying, 'That's OK,' and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe."
The news comes after Disney revealed that the character of LeFou in "Beauty and the Beast" is also gay.
The new Power Rangers reboot hits theaters Friday.
