Power outages reported around Androscoggin County
Apr. 12—As promised, high winds Friday created havoc around Central Maine as gusts of up to 50 mph knocked out power in several areas.
Androscoggin County was hit particularly hard early in the day.
On Friday morning, Central Maine Power reported about 2,300 power outages in Lisbon as strong winds knocked out power in coastal counties.
Earlier, a power outage affecting more than 2,000 customers in neighborhoods near the Lewiston Mall was reported. By 5 p.m., CMP had repaired most of the outages across the county, although 1,900 were were still without power across the state.
Posts on social media indicated a transformer had blown near TD Bank at 790 Lisbon St. The Sun Journal could not immediately confirm that report, and it is unclear if all the reported outages were related to the blown transformer.
CMP also reported more than 9,000 outages across the state Friday morning. More than 500 outages were reported in Oxford County. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for coastal Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo counties.
Winds were expected to subside by Friday night. Overnight clearing was also expected, although the forecast called for possible showers and cloudy conditions for the weekend and into next week.
