April snowstorm power outages reaches over 100,000 customers

WEDNESDAY, 4/3/2024 10:10 a.m.

(WFRV) – The number of power outages throughout Wisconsin and the U.P. appears to be growing as over 100,000 customers are out of service.

As of 10:00 a.m., WPS is reporting a total of 69,040 customers out of service with 1,412 outages all across northeast Wisconsin with the majority affecting the Green Bay area.

We Energies is reporting a total of 36,160 customers without service and 450 outages across Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

In light of the widespread power outages caused by the snowstorm, WPS has made the following statement on its Facebook:

“Our crews are working quickly and safely to repair widespread power outages caused by heavy, wet snow and damaging winds. We’ve restored power to more than 31,000 customers — and won’t stop until service is restored to everyone.”

Over 70,000 customers still without power following April snowstorm

WEDNESDAY, 4/3/2024 6:11 a.m.

(WFRV) – Many customers throughout Wisconsin are still experiencing power outages following an April snowstorm.

As of 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, WPS is reporting a total of 47,997 customers out of service and 1013 outages. These outages stretch all throughout northeast Wisconsin with most of the outages being in effect in Green Bay.

We Energies is reporting a total of 33,302 customers out of service with 305 outages. These outages are affecting areas in southern Wisconsin, the Fox Valley, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Still no word from either company on when service is expected to be restored. Local Five will continue to update this story.

Nearly 65,000 customers without power in Wisconsin, as April snowstorm continues

WEDNESDAY, 4/3/2024 12:08 a.m.

(WFRV) – Customers all across the northeastern parts of Wisconsin are experiencing power outages as an April snowstorm is leaving its mark.

As of midnight on Wednesday, WPS is reporting 36,421 customers out of service and 757 outages. This is mostly in northeast Wisconsin, with a significant amount of outages in Green Bay.

We Energies is reporting that 27,284 customers are out of service, with 250 outages. Most of these outages are in the Fox Valley region.

The outages continue to pile up as from around 8 p.m. to midnight nearly an additional 30,000 customers lost service. Neither company has posted on its social media with any update on when service is expected to be restored.

UPDATE: Over 60K without power in northeast Wisconsin due to strong winds and snow

TUESDAY, 04/02/2024, 9:35 p.m.

(WFRV) – Power outages continue to plague northeast Wisconsin, and now over 60,000 customers from We Energies and WPS are affected.

As of 9:30 p.m., WPS is reporting Marinette County has over 15,000 customers without power due to the strong storm. Brown County has just under 7,000 customers without power, while Door, Menominee, Oconto, and Winnebago County all have over 1,000.

As for We Energies, Outagamie County has just under 8,000 individuals without power, followed by Waupaca, Shawano, and Winnebago County, with over 2,900 customers out of service.

UPDATE: Over 40K Wisconsinites without power due to strong winds and snow

TUESDAY, 04/02/2024, 7:55 p.m.

(WFRV) – Power outages continue to rise in northeast Wisconsin, with over 40,000 customers from We Energies and WPS affected.

As of 8:00 p.m., WPS is reporting 387 outages that are affecting 24,620 customers. Marinette County has the most customers without power at 10,742, while Door, Menominee, and Oconto all have over 3,000.

As for We Energies, Outagamie County has the most customers without power at 5,793, followed by Waupaca and Winnebago at just under 4,000.

Power outages from April snowstorm reported throughout northeast Wisconsin

(WFRV) – With high winds and snowy conditions, thousands of Wisconsin Public Service and We Energies customers have lost power due to downed power lines.

According to the WPS Outage Map, just under 10,000 customers are out of service, with 177 total outages.

Oconto, Portage, Door, Brown, and Marinette County all have at least 1,000 customers without power. Crews are responding to the scenes and working to fix the issue.

Additionally, We Energies is reporting a similar number of individuals without power. Outagamie, Shawano, Waukesha, and Winnebago County each have over 1,000 customers without power.

The number of individuals without power could go up as we move into the tougher part of this April snowstorm. Local 5 News will continue to update you on power outages.
