Power outage impacts hundreds in Morris County

MORRIS COUNTY (KSNT) – Hundreds of Evergy customers were without power in Morris County Thursday morning.

Two large outages were being reported through Evergy’s outage map for an area in Morris County on May 16. This area includes Council Grove, Wilsey and Dunlap.

The outage for Council Grove was impacting a little more than 1,200 Evergy customers while a separate, but nearby, outage was impacting around 450 Evergy customers. Both outages were first reported around 9:30 a.m. on May 16 and had restoration times set for 11 a.m.

27 News reached out to Evergy for more details on the outages. Courtney Lewis, an Evergy spokeswoman, sent the following message regarding the outage:

“Evergy was performing scheduled maintenance when an additional piece of equipment failed, causing about 1,211 customers to lose power for a little over an hour. Crews repaired the equipment and all customers were restored at 10:37 p.m.”
