Power company AES Corp. picks Indianapolis for headquarters of new US operations unit

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Power company AES Corp. has announced it is establishing its U.S. operations headquarters in Indianapolis, where it owns the city's electric utility.

The company also said Friday that Indianapolis Power & Light Co. CEO Ken Zagzebski will be the new president of AES' U.S. strategic business unit.

The Arlington, Va.-based company says the new Indianapolis headquarters will help 21 businesses it has across the United States work together. AES has power distribution and generation operations in 23 countries.

The company says it expects to add 100 jobs to its Indianapolis office by the end of next year, with some of those positions being filled by current employees.

Zagzebski will remain CEO of Indianapolis Power & Light, a position he's held since 2011.
